Even a victory in the upcoming fight over unbeaten Dominican Hector Luis Garcia (16-0, 10 KOs) does not guarantee American top lightweight Gervonte “Tank” Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) the next fight against popular compatriot Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KO), despite the fact that a preliminary agreement has already been reached between the parties for mid-April.
Davis said he wouldn’t be surprised if Garcia was frightened to see the Tank confidently deal with his namesake in the January 7 bout.
“Yeah, I wouldn’t rule it out,” Gervonta replied when asked if he might inadvertently spook Ryan if he was too convincing on January 7th. – It is for this reason that I do not know for sure whether our duel with him (Ryan) will take place. I hope he doesn’t show up to the arena to see it for himself. It’s better to watch it on TV.”
Also, Gervonta made an interesting point about why Garcia pulled out of the interim fight.
