Boxing legend Filipino Manny Pacquiao received an offer to hold an exhibition fight in July 2023 in not the most boxing country in the world – Papua New Guinea. This was announced by the Australian promoter Peter Maniatis (Kings of Kombat).
Pacquiao’s potential rival is Australian boxing legend Anthony Mundine (ex-rugby player who twice became world boxing champion). Of course, we are talking about an exhibition match.
According to Maniatis, he already had preliminary talks with the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, James Marape, “who is a huge fan of sports, including boxing.”
Maniatis has even got in touch with Pacquiao’s promoter Sean Gibbons (MP Promotions): “We want to thank the government of Papua New Guinea for supporting the organization of such a large project, which can only be compared with the legendary “Thriller in Manila” – fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. We will help attract tourists from all over the world to Papua New Guinea!”
Earlier this month, in South Korea, Pacquiao beat a local martial artist, after which he recorded a video appeal in support of Ukraine in the fight against the Russian aggressor. The veteran hinted at a possible full-fledged comeback. But the current division leader Errol Spence refused to fight Pacquiao – I’m sure the public will not appreciate it.
