I won’t be surprised if Usyk beats Fury – George Groves

interview for local media, he commented on the upcoming fight between the unified heavyweight champion from Ukraine (over 90.7 kg) Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) and the WBC title holder Briton Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs).

George sees his compatriot as the favorite of the expected confrontation, but pays tribute to the skills of the Ukrainian and will not be surprised if Alexander becomes the absolute world champion.

– The main focus of the heavyweight division is the Fury-Usyk fight for the title of absolute champion. How do you see this fight going?

“If this fight happens… I mean, it all depends on what kind of response I want to get. I already chose Usyk for a show on Channel 5. This week I have already been more conservative on Sky Sports.

I think Fury will be the favorite. I won’t pick a winner with a firm conviction because I really appreciate Usyk. Of course, he is only a fraction of Tyson Fury’s size, but he is a phenomenal fighter, a great athlete, a very skilled high-level trickster. He did it again and again, in a foreign land, contrary to expectations. I went up to heavyweight and didn’t really stumble.

I disagree with Fury that Usyk vs Chisora ​​was hell. And it is obvious that Fury was justifying Chisora ​​by this as his opponent. But for me, Usyk controlled that fight. He was a little under pressure the first few rounds, but anyone would be in that position if he was this size against Chisora. But then, after a few rounds, it seemed that if he stepped on the gas, then, probably, he would be stopped. And that was at a time when Chisora ​​was fresher and Usyk had only three fights in his heavyweight career.

And he has the skill and the courage, the conviction to be disciplined. And he keeps reaching for you, he keeps finding that distance, and then he hits you hard right at the end.

On the other hand, it’s obvious that Fury is a big fighter who brings his fists, hands, throws punches. He works with Sugar Hill from Kronk. It was a turning point for him. And he’s a big moose, he’s got a big size. It looks like he’s holding a punch better now. It will be really hard for anyone to beat him.
