It is obvious that both the Top Rank promotion company and the undisputed lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) American Devin Haney (29-0 15 KOs) want the same thing – that Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko (17-2, 11 KOs). But there is no agreement on the timing.
The day before, Devin got out on Twitter, where he began to say that he would like to fight Lomachenko before Ramadan, which will last from March 22 to April 21 next year, while Top Rank plans to fight no earlier than May.
Haney is not happy with this, because as a practicing Muslim, he will lose the opportunity to go through a full-fledged training camp. The American is sure that the interests of Lomachenko are pursued in the company. “These people want to delay my fight with Loma until May, knowing that the longer I stay at this weight, the harder it is for me to make it! Devin noted. Let’s do this shit in March! I told Top Rank that I want to fight before Ramadan.”
Recall that in 2022, Haney had two fights against George Kambosos and won both on points.
Lomachenko returned to the ring at the end of October and outboxed Jemaine Ortiz.
