La Palestre, Le Cannet, France. As part of the show, the local WBA Super heavyweight champion (up to 90.7 kg) Arsen Gulamiryan (27-0, 18 KOs) beat the mandatory challenger from the Russian Federation Alexei Yegorov (11-1, 7 KOs). Interestingly, the champion has not entered the ring before since 2019, and the challenger since 2020.
The challenger confidently started the fight. Egorov worked ahead of the curve, constantly jabbed and shifted. Gulamiryan didn’t force things, he kept an eye on them, pressed the block.
The champion was forced to add a little more activity. It was good to impose a comfortable average distance. Egorov frankly repulsed Gulamiryan, but the referee did not interfere.
The Frenchman realized that he would not be able to compete in workrate and combination work with the Russian – he was clearly better prepared for the battle. Gulamiryan tried to work on spurts, gave up the center of the ring.
Egorov gradually began to lose the initiative. He clinched more and more often, got very tired in this fuss, the workrate dropped significantly. And Gulamiryan’s advantage in striking power also affected.
In the 8th round, the Frenchman shook Yegorov with a hook on the liver, and the right hooks began to pass around the block. The Russian survived not without problems – he had to be clinched. It was lucky that Gulamiryan had to take a break after each active action.
The champion almost managed to drop Yegorov in the 10th round. He was already frankly surviving, constantly grabbing Gulamiryan’s hands. The Russian managed to find strength in himself and looked worthy in the decisive round. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a draw.
Score of judges (to be confirmed).
Gulamiryan UD 12.
The local EBU European champion in super middleweight (up to 76.2 kg) Kevin Lele Sajo (19-0, 17 KOs) passed the German Emre Çukur (19-2-1, 3 KOs) without any problems.
The favorite immediately occupied the center of the ring and began to drive the left-handed underdog around the perimeter. He seemed to shoot well (very solid manual speed), but for some reason he constantly stagnated at the ropes and often drove himself into a corner.
By the 4th round, Çukur finally switched to survival mode: he clinched, tied the opponent’s hands, hid behind the block, almost did not respond with blows to blows. The fight became more and more one-sided. Sajo “removed” the opponent’s block, constantly disturbing the body.
In the 7th round, Çukur collapsed after a missed right hook. He got to his feet, but was immediately hammered at the ropes to the referee’s go-ahead.
Sajo TKO 7.
The vacant EBU European champion title in the light middleweight (up to 69.9 kg) was played by the Frenchman Milan Prat (18-0, 15 KOs) and Stephen Danio (20-6-3, 7 KOs) from the Netherlands.
The fight did not turn out to be competitive – the local favorite knocked out the guest in the 2nd round.
Prat KO 2.
