The interim WBO world heavyweight champion Briton Joe Joyce (15-0, 14 KOs) commented on the organization’s decision to award Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) the award as the best boxer of 2022.
Recall that this year, Usyk had one fight – on August 20, he won revenge on points against Briton Anthony Joshua. This victory allowed him to defend the WBA/WBO/IBF heavyweight titles for the first time.
Joyce, who saw with his own eyes how Usyk was awarded the prize at the annual WBO convention in Puerto Rico, shared his impressions of what happened.
“That motivates me to kick his ass! Joe stated. I’m going for titles. And Usyk is a good guy. He had a really dominant, filigree performance (in the rematch with Joshua). Wonderful performance. He deserves this award.”
There, in Puerto Rico, Usyk and Joyce have already met face to face. They have something to remember: in 2013, Alexander defeated Joe in the WSB semi-professional league.
“We haven’t seen each other for a long time, it was great to see each other. I look forward to our fight, ”said the Briton.
Just now, Usyk admitted that he doesn’t want to fight Joyce.
