Last week in London (England), British middleweight Chris Eubank Jr. (32-2, 23 KOs) was supposed to box in the contractual weight limit with compatriot welterweight Conor Benn (21-0, 14 KOs), but he disrupted a multi-million dollar event event – caught doping.
The parties are not making sudden gestures yet – they are waiting for the results of the investigation and the final decision. British Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD). But apparently, Benn will not be able to get off with a slight fright – he risks getting a 4-year suspension. And they also say that this year it was not the first time he failed a doping test, which is also not in his favor.
For this reason, potential rivals of Eubank became more active in Britain. These are three local ex-world champions. The other day, Chris was challenged by Liam Smith (32-3-1, 19 KOs), who is a division below. He is ready to fight in December.
Former welterweight champion Kell Brook (40-3, 28 KOs) did not retire for long. His coach Dominic Ingle claims that the Brit is already preparing for a comeback. Previously, Brook was considered as a potential rival for Eubank, but the parties failed to agree.
And, of course, one more ex-champion from Britain remains relevant – the conqueror of two weight divisions Billy Joe Saunders (30-1, 14 KOs), who announced his return to the ring last month. He, however, first needs to get in shape – he gained excess weight. According to Saunders, the comeback will take place at the end of this year or early next.
Eubank and Saunders met in the ring in 2014 – Billy Joe won a thin one, inflicted his debut defeat on Chris in the pros.
Did you hear that Eubank and Benn ruined the holiday for the legendary compatriot Ricky Hatton? Says, “It was my fucking fucking birthday.”
