Jose Aldo may be able to return to boxing competition in the future, however it is unlikely that he will ever come back to mixed martial arts.
Aldo still had one fight in his UFC deal when he declared his retirement in September. However, a new deal was struck that will allow him to transition to boxing. In an interview with Globo , Aldo stated that he is still tied to UFC and that he does not want to sign with any other MMA promotion.
“I’m trying to see the best path I’ll take right now,” Aldo said. “I won’t fight MMA, that’s for sure. Thank you to everyone who called me about other promotions. However, UFC hasn’t let me leave, they have my contract. I will see .”

Aldo has contemplated boxing for years. Back in 2017, his longtime coach and manager Andre Pederneiras told MMA Fighting that Aldo was willing to “fight all of his UFC fights (left on the contract) in three months and go box.”
“Boxing “is a possibility,” Aldo stated about his next move as an athlete. “It was always a dream I had in my life, I never hid that from anyone. It was always my dream. But let’s see. Everybody says I’m still young, that I have a few years [left]. For now I just want to spend time with my children and think about the professional side .”
