Today it became known that British welterweight Conor Benn (21-0, 14 KOs) failed a doping test ahead of the fight against fellow middleweight Chris Eubank Jr. (32-2, 23 KOs), which is scheduled for October 8 in London (England) ) in the contractual weight limit up to 71.2 kg.
It is reported that clomiphene, a substance from the World Anti-Doping Agency banned list, which is commonly used to treat infertility in women, was found in the boxer’s tests.
Despite this, Eubank stated that he still wanted to fight Benn and the fight would apparently take place.
“We have consulted with specialists,” said Eubank’s promoter, Kalle Sauerland. – It (clomiphene) can increase testosterone levels, but the experts did not see that this provides an advantage. Based on this, we immediately discussed it with the most important person – our boxer. He was still happy to be in the ring. We also spoke directly with Benn, there was a direct discussion between them. I have no right to participate in this discussion, but they had a private conversation.”

And here is the official statement from Benn’s promoters about what happened:
“We have learned that a random test by the Anti-Doping Association for Voluntary Testing (VADA) on Conor Benn resulted in an Adverse Analytical Finding for traces of a fertility drug. Sample B has yet to be tested, which means that a violation of the rules has not been confirmed. Mr. Benn has not been charged with any rule violations, has not been suspended from fighting and is still able to fight. Mr. Benn has since passed a doping test conducted by the UK Anti-Doping Agency, the anti-doping body delegated by the British Boxing Control Board for doping testing for the fight (Eubank-Benn). Mr Benn has passed all UKAD doping tests. Both fighters have received medical and legal advice, are aware of all relevant information and are willing to fight this Saturday.”
At the same time, the main sanctioning body – the British Boxing Control Council – has not yet issued its verdict on the current situation.
