Ex-world champion and current boxing expert Sean Porter knows for sure that the undisputed super middleweight champion Mexican Saul Canelo Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) will not be able to take revenge on the Russian light heavyweight Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11) playing for Kyrgyzstan KO), to whom he lost in May by unanimous decision.
Porter came to this conclusion after watching Canelo’s third fight with a veteran from Kazakhstan, Gennady Golovkin – in September, the Mexican won by decision of the judges, but did not please with the performance.
“I expected Canelo to dominate the fight with GGG—
reasoning Porter. – As for me, now they are at different levels. But Canelo didn’t show it. And this moment forced me to rethink my previous conclusions. After such a performance, it is hard to believe that Alvarez will take into account all the mistakes made in the first fight with Bivol and prepare for revenge. What exactly went wrong in the first fight? He didn’t have a backup plan. And he never did anything during the battle. It was for this reason that I believed that with Golovkin he would want to show everyone the dominating performance that we had seen from him before. But that did not happen”.
Porter suggests that “the only difference we saw was the amount of fuel in the gas tank. This dude didn’t train for a 12-round race. You must always be ready to go the whole distance, regardless of the opponent’s name. If Canelo had been in better condition, then the fight would have ended ahead of schedule. But what I saw was enough for me to conclude: he will not beat Bivol in a rematch. Notice, before the fight with Golovkin, I spoke differently.
Porter believes that “there was no comeback for Golovkin in the third fight with Canelo. It’s just the Mexican slowed down. He simply lost speed and power. And only then Golovkin felt a little confidence and went forward. And as soon as he started to hit, he turned up the density of the fight. As for me, this is the maximum of the current Golovkin. And don’t expect him to come back the same. Only one dude will forever remain invincible in boxing. And that dude is time.”
Earlier, Andre Ward severely smashed Alvarez and Golovkin, and the outrageous Malignaggi turned to Canelo: “Find yourself a better excuse!”
