This weekend in Las Vegas (USA), Mexican Saul Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) and Kazakhstani Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) will close their legendary rivalry in the ring in the third face-to-face fight. In 2017, they tied the fight, and 12 months later, Canelo won.

Mexican coach Eddie Reynoso spoke in detail about what happened after the end of the first fight. In his opinion, Golovkin’s coach Abel Sanchez accidentally “helped” them: “He made a mistake. Yes, Sanchez should not have said that Gennady has a Mexican style, while Canelo does not. And, believe me, I’m not talking about the fact that this is nonsense. Not that you have to be Mexican to fight like a Mexican. Not about the fact that Saul is Mexican.”

“The thing is that in the first fight we leaned more on counterattacks and footwork. We waited for Golovkin’s offensive actions and worked in response. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. I think we were not active enough. I should have thrown more punches. In the second fight, Saul put pressure on Golovkin, forced him to retreat. It was like a continuation of the fight, the 13th round. I told Canelo after the end of the first fight: “He doesn’t know how to work as a second number. To beat him, you have to attack.” He agreed. And from the starting gong, we forced Golovkin to retreat. We did it through movements, feints and combinations, ”recalls Reynoso.

Golovkin soon refused to cooperate with Sanchez – now the American mentor Jonathon Banks is in his corner. The veteran’s coach told how he wants to see Gennady in the third fight with Canelo and hinted that the Mexican is doping.
