Member International Boxing Hall of Fame american legend Roy Jones Jr shared his opinion on a potential fight between two “pound” compatriots – Terence Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) and Errol Spence (28-0, 22 KOs).
Representatives of the boxers are negotiating a full-time fight, at stake which will be the title of absolute welterweight champion and, possibly, the first line in R4P rating.
Jones expressed his opinion and shared his prediction.
It turned out contradictory: “This is the fight everyone wants to see. I know Crawford better because he was on HBO. I didn’t see Spence very often in action. But I know that this is a pressure fighter. In short, Crawford will be better at the start of the fight and Spence will be better at the later stages of the fight.”
“Who will win? Jones thought. Well, it all depends on how much damage Crawford can deal to Spence early in the fight. For example, if he can cut the opponent or disorientate, he will confidently lead the fight to victory. And if not, then Spence may well turn the tide of the fight, because he is a hell of a presser. And if the second option passes, then we will get a hell of a tough fight.
After a moment’s thought, Jones suddenly blurted out, “Though you know what? No, there’s no way Spence can beat Crawford. This won’t happen. As for me, Terence is now the clear No. 1 in the “pound”, the best fighter in the world.
The other day it became known that the battle between Spence and Crawford is on the verge of collapse. Have you heard Mike Tyson’s opinion about this fight? He says, “He will simply move you!”
