The newly-minted WBA super lightweight champion Dominican Alberto Puello (21-0, 10 KOs) challenged the former undisputed champion of the lower division American Teofimo Lopez (17-1, 13 KOs).

Last weekend in Hollywood (Florida, USA), Puello snatched a controversial victory from Botirjon Akhmedov (9-2, 8 KOs), a fighter claiming an interesting record – he managed to play for Ukraine, Turkey, Russia, and now for Uzbekistan.

Puello would like to fight with the best of the best in this weight: “Most of all I want to fight with Josh Taylor. But as far as I understand, he will give revenge to Jack Catterall in the next fight, that is, he is not available now. And if so, then Teofimo should fight with me. Because I have a belt. And he himself said that his task, his goal is to become a two-time world champion in two different divisions. And as of today, I am his only option to achieve his goal.

“I heard that Lopez was barking something about wanting to become the absolute world champion at 63.5 kg. I hope he understands that this cannot be achieved without my belt,” the newly-minted champion smiles. If he’s being serious, I don’t see a problem. Why wouldn’t he fight me then? I am ready to fight him anytime, anywhere. I don’t want to be without a fight for a long time. I want to be active. I’ll take a short break and return to the hall. I want to always be in shape. Nobody knows when you will get the coolest opportunity in your life. So you have to be always ready.”

Lopez’s comeback took place this month: in his debut fight in 63.5 kg, Teofimo brilliantly scored Campa. After the fight, the winner promised to “beat the crap out of all these guys” and announced the date of the next fight and a possible opponent.
