At the end of last week, it became known that the upcoming rematch between Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) and Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) will be at stake not only in the WBA/WBO/IBF world titles owned by the Ukrainian, which he took away from the Briton thanks to the victory in last year’s guest fight, but also the vacant belt of the strongest heavyweight according to The Ring magazine.
The fact is that until recently the belt of the legendary edition was owned by Briton Tyson Fury. However, after his next announcement of his retirement, the editors decided to take away the regalia from Fury and immediately determine it as a reward for the winner of the mega-fight scheduled for August 20 in Saudi Arabia.
Joshua had been asked the day before what this meant to him. The editors hardly liked the answer.
“I just want to win, and honestly, I don’t care about anything else,” Joshua admitted. – Eddie (Hearn) called, wrote me about it, and I didn’t even answer him. I don’t care about The Ring magazine belt at all. He wrote to me about it, but I did not answer him. This is my mood now: only fight – and nothing more.
Speaking of mood. Joshua promises to “smear Usyk” on Saturday and prepares his hands for the tough removal of Alexander.
