The “UFC 277 Countdown” video shows a pair of rematches. One features Julianna Pena, who is looking for a second victory over Amanda Nunes after one of the most shocking upsets in MMA History. The other, a flyweight match between Kai Kara-France and Brandon Moreno with interim gold at stake.
Pena was the UFC’s undisputed champion in 135 weight — and also the No. 1 bantamweight in MMA Fighting’s Global Rankings –with a win over Nunes at UFC 269 this past December. “The Venezuelan Vixen” was the first woman to defeat Nunes in over six years and she did so in dominant fashion, submitting Nunes in the second round. Nunes’ 12-fight winning streak was also ended by the loss.
Now, after a season butting heads as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 30, Pena and Nunes run it back in Saturday’s main event.
In the co-main, Moreno will face Kara-France for an interim title. Flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo is still recovering from his injuries. Moreno defeated Kara-France by unanimous decision at UFC 245 in December 2019.
Their careers took them in opposite directions. Moreno became UFC champion, while Kara-France spent more time building his case as a contender. However, Kara-France has emerged as one of the most dangerous fighters in the flyweight division with three straight wins, two of those by first-round knockout.
