Main event UFC on ABC 3
The fight will take place on July 16 in Elmont (New York, USA) at the UBS Arena and will become the main event of the UFC on ABC 3 tournament. The estimated start of the fight is 23:30 Kyiv time. The fight will be broadcast live on Setanta Sports.
No. 2 UFC Featherweight Champion Brian Ortega (15-2) will take on No. 3 ranked Yair Rodriguez (13-3).
Ortega is making a comeback after a failed title attempt at UFC 266 last September when he was defeated on points by featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 266. Moreover, this was Ortega’s second title shot in the last three fights, in December 2018, his TKO after the fourth round was stopped by the then champion Max Holloway. In between these defeats, T-City defeated Jang Sung-yoon’s Korean Zombie in five rounds.
Rodriguez also defeated the Korean Zombie but did it with a fantastic knockout in 2018 and lost to Holloway. With Holloway, the Mexican had his last fight so far, in November 2021, Rodriguez lost to Blessed by unanimous decision in a non-title five-round fight.
Prediction for the fight
Rodriguez is an amazing striker, capable of causing a lot of trouble on the feet of anyone, even a top-notch striker like Holloway. Ortega, on the other hand, has always been famous for his BJJ, but in recent years he has improved his stance.
Nevertheless, it is unlikely that Ortega will outplay Rodriguez in the stand, but due to his versatility and fighting balance, Brian will have a good chance of winning. However, if Ortega fails to land takedowns, then he is in trouble. We believe that the fight will go the whole distance and still end in a stubborn but undeniable victory for Ortega.
