Pyramide Mainz, Mainz, Germany. An unusual embarrassment happened in Germany. The main event of the evening did not take place – the guest boxer disappeared without a trace. It was expected that the local cruiser (up to 90.7 kg) ex-European champion Leon Hart (21-5, 13 KO) will fight with the 41-year-old Frenchman
Cyril Makiadi (13-3-2, 6 KOs) for the WBA continental belt.
Scandal smacked even on the eve of the battle. Makiadi showed up late for the weigh-in, after which he announced that he would not enter the ring – he wanted to see for himself that Hart fit into the weight limit. Not without problems, but the veteran was nevertheless “convinced” to enter the ring.
The incident seemed to be over. Hart was already in the ring, the ring announcer announced the Frenchman’s exit, they turned on the music, but he never appeared. A minute later, the promoter of the show Alexander Petkovic entered the ring (Petko’s LMS Promotion) and stated that he had not encountered such a situation before, although he had been in boxing for 30 years (he used to be a boxer) – Makiadi simply disappeared.
Officials said that since the Frenchman had signed all the papers, the fight could not take place at all. The gong sounded, after which the “fight” ended with the victory of the local boxer due to the absence of the opponent. Hart did become the WBA continental champion. Congratulations!
Hart WO (win due to absence of the opponent).
