British promoter Eddie Hearn believes that Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (57-2-2, 37 KOs) deserves respect for choosing to fight Russian Dmitry Bivol, even though it turned out to be his second defeat in his career.

Recall that at the beginning of the year, Alvarez had two proposals for two fights: against Bivol and Gennady Golovkin from Hearn and DAZN, as well as against Jermall Charlo and David Benavidez from PBC. The second was financially more profitable and did not imply a transition from Canelo to another category.

However, Saul chose Bivol and Golovkin. As a result, on May 8, he lost to Dmitry on points.

“When people say that Canelo should fight Benavidez and Charlo in a voluntary defense of his super middleweight titles, (they should understand that) this does not bother Canelo. When we talk about Bivol, Canelo likes the whole idea of moving up to light heavyweight and challenging someone,” says Hearn.

“Maybe Canelo shouldn’t have done this. Maybe he should have just boxed Charlo. But we have to respect this guy, because in this way he kind of wants to put himself at a disadvantage, ”said the functionary.

Recall that on September 17 in Las Vegas, Alvarez is scheduled for the third fight with Golovkin. According to the Mexican coach, they wanted an immediate rematch with Bivol, not Golovkin.
