Two-time PFL champ Kayla Harrison will now face Kaitlin Young in the headliner of PFL 6 after an undisclosed injury to Julia Budd.
After an initial report by ESPN.com HTML1,
MMA Fighting confirmed Budd’s withdraw and Harrison was replaced with a close friend. PFL 6 will take place in July 1, at OTE Atlanta. It airs on ESPN and ESPN+.
After a brief stint as a matchmaker at InvictaFC,
Young was a pioneer in women’s MMA and returned to active status in 2018. She’s since earned a record of 5-3, fighting in Rizin, the all-female Invicta and the PFL, where she was eliminated from the Season 3 lightweight post-season following a pair of setbacks.
Budd, a former Bellator featherweight champion, was to make her third PFL appearance and hoped to bounce back after a decision loss to Season 3 finalist Genah Fabian in her previous outing.
Harrison will be facing a difficult task when Young must defeat her in professional MMA. After a short period of unrestricted agency, the Olympic gold medalist judoka has decimated the field at 155 lbs and will be returning to defend her title and $1million prize.
