Former world super middleweight champion, and now a WBA contender in the light heavyweight category (up to 79.4 kg), Mexican Gilberto Ramirez (44-0, 30 KOs) expects to become the next opponent of Russian WBA Super world champion Dmitry Bivol (20- 0, 11 KOs) and hopes that the organization will contribute to this by obliging Dmitry to defend.
“I appreciate the WBA and believe that the right process will be followed,” Ramirez says. “I’m embarrassed that Bivol is avoiding me. I earned the WBA mandatory in the ring, twice. And he’s been talking about fighting me for the last two years. The time has come”.
It is worth noting that the head of the Top Rank promotional company, Bob Arum, supported the Bivol-Ramirez fight, so that the winner would subsequently fight the winner of the fight between Artur Beterbiev and Anthony Yarde for the title of absolute division champion.
Ramirez likes the idea.
“I’m not surprised by Bob’s comments,” Gilberto notes. “Bivol simply cannot dictate his Top Rank demands. It doesn’t work like that. Canelo has turned down an (immediate) rematch (with Bivol), so now I’m curious what other excuse Bivol will come up with to avoid me.”
Previously, Ramirez found a plus in the fact that Bivol made a choice in favor of Canelo.
