UFC on ESPN 20 Main Event
This week, the UFC will hold two tournaments with spectators at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi (UAE). Sunday night/morning hosts UFC 257 with Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier in the lead, and Wednesday night hosts UFC on ESPN 20, also known as UFC Fight Island 8.
The UFC on ESPN 20 main event will feature bottom-of-the-top 10 welterweights Chiesa (#8) and Magni (#9).
TUF 15 winner Chiesa made his welterweight debut in December 2018 and has gone undefeated ever since. He first defeated Carlos Condit via submission, and then convincingly passed Diego Sanchez and former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos on points a year ago, after which “Maverick” did not enter the cage.
Magni is also on a three win streak. Starting in March 2020, he won consecutive unanimous decision wins against Li Jingliang, Anthony Rocco Martin and former UFC champion Robbie Lawler.
Prediction for the fight
Chiesa is a dangerous grappler who won by submission 11 times out of 17 (none KO/TKO wins in his career). Magni is a much more versatile fighter, but he lacks powerful punching and refined submission skills in his arsenal.
It is expected that Chiesa will try to drag the opponent to the ground. But given Magni’s good takedown defense, this won’t be easy to do. In the stand, the advantage should be for the lanky Magni, who, due to this, can bring the matter to his victory by a referee’s decision. However, it is also impossible to rule out the victory of Chiesa by reception.
