UFC Fight Night 187 co-main fight
After the massive UFC 259 event last Sunday this coming weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, the #1 promotion will present a relatively modest UFC Fight Night 187 event. UFC Fight Night 187 has no real big names on the card, but this does not mean that there will be no interesting fights at the tournament.
The co-main bout will feature light heavyweight No. 11 Misha Tsirkunov and No. 13 Ryan Spann. This is the second attempt by the UFC to bring these fighters together in a cage, since due to an injury, Tsirkunov was unable to fight Spann in December 2020 at UFC Fight Night 183.
A native of Riga, Cirkunov lost three out of four fights in 2017-2019, being knocked out by Volkan Ozdemir, Glovera Teixeira and Johnny Walker. Tsirkunov had his last fight in September 2019, winning by submission against Jimmy Krut. This was Misha’s sixth fight in a row, ending in the first round.
Spann went to the UFC with a 4-0 record, including a knockout of António Rogerio Nogueira, until last September he faced Johnny Walker and was knocked out by him in three minutes.
Prediction for the fight
Cirkunov is a physically powerful basic grappler. A black belt in BJJ allows him to often win by submission – 9 of 15 victories by submission in his career.
Spann can also call the ground floor his strong side, but, unlike his opponent, he is a little more confident in the stance and has a powerful blow.
Cirkunov doesn’t hold punches well, so Spann can catch him with one of his punches. If this does not happen, then Tsirkunov should take his own due to the wrestling advantage.
Tsirkunov’s victory by submission in the 2nd round
The fight will take place on Sunday, March 14, approximately 05:00 Kyiv time.
