UFC on ESPN 23 Main Event

On the night of Saturday to Sunday, May 2, the UFC will return to Las Vegas (Nevada, USA) to once again hold their tournament without spectators at the UFC Apex. In the main event of the UFC on ESPN 23 (or UFC Vegas 25) tournament, fans are expected to fight top light heavyweights. The fight will be broadcast live on Setanta Sports. Estimated start of the battle at 08:00 Kyiv time.

The title fight of the tournament with the participation of Dominik Reyes and Jiří Prochazka could eventually become a challenger, since both occupy high positions in the UFC light heavyweight rankings – 3rd and 5th places, respectively.

Dominik and Jiri could have fought back on February 27, but Reyes pulled out of the fight, citing an injury.

Reyes (12-2) is set to return after losing two in a row, both for the UFC title. In February 2020, undefeated MMA Reyes with six UFC victories fought a competitive fight but lost on points to champion Jon Jones. In August, Jones vacated the title, and the following month, Reyes and Jan Blachowicz fought for the vacant title the following month. The Pole unexpectedly knocked out Reyes in the second round.

Prohazka (27-3) 9 years in MMA, but only recently started talking about him. The Czech has not lost since being knocked out by Muhammed Laval in 2015 and is now on a streak of 11 wins, 10 of which by knockout. Prohazka got his revenge on Laval in April 2019 by knocking him out in the first round to claim the Rizin FF light heavyweight title. Before the end of the year, Prochazka knocked out Fabio Maldonado and CB Dolloway, and moved to the UFC. Prochazka made his only fight in the octagon in July, knocking out former UFC title contender Volkan Ozdemir in the early second round.

Prediction for the fight

Both fighters prefer to work in the stand, being masters in this business and having a powerful blow. Both have a good takedown defense, and it is unlikely that any of them will want to bet on the ground.

Prochazka is arguably a more technical striker than his opponent, and the Czech fighter’s deadly punching power could be the deciding factor in this matchup. Reyes also has good chances of winning by knockout, but we predict that one of Prochazka’s punches will sooner or later finish the already “broken” Reyes.
