Former undisputed lightweight champion American Teofimo Lopez (16-1, 12 KOs) will make his 63.5kg debut in August. The reviewer reports
Lance Pugmier referring to fighter promoter Bob Arum (Top Rank).
Lopez’s comeback has so far remained an unresolved issue – everything will depend on the results of a medical examination, which the fighter will soon have to undergo.
“Bob Arum says that if a doctor’s clearance is obtained, then the fight of former world champion Lopez is scheduled for August in the super lightweight limit in Fort Lauderdale (Florida, USA). They say that the most likely opponent is the Mexican Pedro Campa, ”writes Pugmeier.
The reviewer says that Top Rank consider Campo an ideal opponent for López at this stage of his career, because “Pedro fits in all respects: a great record, a desire to constantly press and be in front of an opponent. This is not some kind of runner-cyclist for you.”
Last summer, Campo was matched with top US super lightweight Jose Cepede, but the fight fell through. In March, the Mexican performed at a failed opponent as an opening act, chalked up one of the show’s two apsets.
Lopez became an absolute in October 2020 – he outboxed the Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko, who entered the ring with an injury. Almost a year later, the American did the same – being in frankly useless form and with health problems, he lost all the belts to the Australian George Kambosos Jr. Since then, he has not appeared in the ring.
