The absolute super middleweight champion Mexican Saul Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) has decided on his plans for the near future – in September he will have a third fight with his antagonist from Kazakhstan veteran Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs), and only then will he try to get even with the Russian light heavyweight Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs).

According to Canelo, the thing is that “we already had a contract to fight Golovkin in our hands. Therefore, in order not to violate the agreements, we must finish what we started. I think these two fights – with Golovkin and Bivol – are the biggest events in boxing as of today. Will I get revenge with Bivol? Alas, I lost to him. But that doesn’t mean I gave up. That doesn’t mean I won’t try again. In this case, persistence is very important. But for now, the most important thing is to return to the ring in September. The fight will be officially announced in the coming days.”

The fight against the Kazakhstani will take place in the super middleweight limit. For Canelo, this will be the debut defense of the title of absolute champion at 76.2 kg. Golovkin has never boxed in the limit above average weight – he is the current unified champion at 72.6 kg, in April he beat Japanese Olympic champion Ryota Murata on the road.

Canelo Alvarez has previously hinted that his next fight is against Golovkin. The decision of the Mexican is supported by an American expert – he explained why Canelo should not rush to rematch Bivol.
