If I were Bivol: Lara on rematch with Canelo

Russian WBA Super light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) should not agree to a rematch with the absolute category below the Mexican Saul Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs). So says the owner of the WBA World belt in the middle division, the age-old Cuban Erislandy Lara (28-3-3, 16 KOs).

In 2014, Canelo snatched victory from Lara, taking advantage of the passivity of his opponent.
Cuban believesthat in that battle he was robbed: “Any regrets? No, there is nothing like that, because I feel that I have worked to win. You just need to move on. We asked for a rematch, but we never got a response. Everyone knows who actually won that fight.”

On Canelo’s loss to Bivolu: “What can I think about, it was a clean loss. Bivol dominated and confidently beat him. Everyone saw it. Canelo has a smart team. They know what they’re doing. I think with a high degree of probability they will demand a rematch. If I was Bivol, I wouldn’t give Canelo a rematch. Why risk knowing that you can be thrown? He’s already won. He has nothing to prove. So if I were Bivol, I would refuse.”

The thing is that the clause on revenge was previously spelled out in the contract for the first fight. Bivol himself claims that his priority is a fight for all light heavyweight titles, but if Canelo’s team demands a second fight, they will not be able to refuse.

In the meantime, a long break in his career will soon be closed by Lara himself – on May 28, he will fight with the Irish gatekeeper Gary O’Sullivan as a warm-up for US lightweight knockouts Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero. Yesterday, the challenger surprised me with clumsy movements at an open training session: videos and quotes.
