Ex-absolute super lightweight champion (up to 63.5 kg) Scot Josh Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) can hold his next fight against WBC mandatory challenger Jose Cepeda (35-2, 27 KOs).
Recall that last week Taylor officially relinquished the WBA title, citing pressure from the organization, which demanded to fight its official contender Alberto Puello without delay.
Thus, in the possession of Josh were the WBC, IBF and WBO belts.
Todd Duboeuf, President of Top Rank, said about the work on the Taylor-Cepeda fight: “Cepeda gave the fight of the year with Baranchik, and in October he knocked out (Josue) Vargas in the first round. Combined, this earned him the position of the mandatory challenger for the WBC title, and we are now working with both teams to arrange this fight.
Recall that in February of this year, Josh with great difficulty defeated the Englishman Jack Catterall, thereby fulfilling his championship obligations to the WBO.
