The World Boxing Association has decided that the place of its world champion in super lightweight (up to 63.5 kg), which was occupied by the absolute of this division, Josh Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) from Scotland, is now vacant. About it
informed WBA press office

Earlier, the company appointed a mandatory fight between Taylor and the No. 1 boxer in the ranking of Alberto Puello (20-0, 10 KOs). The parties had 30 days to reach an agreement. No one agreed on anything, after which the fight went to a promotional auction, where only TGB, Puello’s promoters, applied.

As a result, Josh did not agree to the fight, and according to WBA rules, he was stripped of his belt. Thus, Taylor is no longer the undisputed champion. He combined all four titles almost exactly a year ago.

Puello defended the “half-title”

Alberto will now fight for the title with a new opponent.

Former lightweight absolute Teofimo Lopez has yet to move up to super lightweight, but is already “taking over the division.” Teofimo said he was in talks to fight Taylor.
