Former world middleweight champion (up to 72.6 kg) from Japan, Ryota Murata (16-3, 13 KOs), apparently, will no longer enter the boxing ring. At least in an official fight.

The 37-year-old winner of the 2012 Olympics admitted that although he did not make an official announcement of his retirement, he had already decided everything for himself.

Recall that Murata’s last fight was in April last year against Kazakhstani Gennady Golovkin. It was a fight for the unification of the WBA Super and IBF titles, held in Ryota’s homeland. The result of the confrontation was an early victory for Golovkin by technical knockout in the 9th round.

For Murata, who twice won secondary world titles according to the WBA World, this was the first performance since December 2019.

In September, Mexican Canelo Alvarez explained why Golovkin missed out on Murata.
