On the night of February 11-12, a mixed martial arts tournament was held in Perth, Australia UFC 284.
In the main fight Alexander Volkanovski from Australia (25–1) in front of the home audience lost on points to 🖕 Islam Makhachev (23–1). Following the results of the five-round fight, the judges issued a unanimous decision (47–48, 47–48, 46–49).
This is Volkanovski’s first loss in the UFC, but he has moved up to a different weight class and still holds the featherweight championship belt.
In the main battle Yair Rodriguez of Mexico (14–3, 1 NC) defeated Josh Emett of the United States (18–2) to win the interim featherweight belt. Rodriguez won via choke submission in the 2nd round and was eligible to fight Volkanovski.
