If Alexander Volkanovski has to come on as a substitute in a title fight between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev, he prefers to share the octagon with the Brazilian fighter.
“I would say that Oliveira would be the best opponent,” said the Australian in the next edition of the MMA Hour. “People will say, stylistically, but obviously there is a lot of hype around Charles – everyone considers him a champion. If I beat him, everyone will consider me a champion. If I face Islam and beat him, I’m sure people will call me champion too, but I still have to beat Charles.”
Also, the current UFC featherweight champion said what he would do if the fight between Oliveira and Makhachev took place.
“I want to be active. If their fight goes on, one of them wins the title and can’t fight for quite some time, I’ll defend the featherweight belt and then wait for the lightweight title. I’m definitely next in line for a lightweight title fight. It’s very obvious and very clear – that’s why I’m doing it”
Recall that the lightweight fight, in which the vacant UFC championship belt will be played, will head the UFC 280 tournament in Abu Dhabi on October 22.
