The winner of the fight between Petr Yan and Sean O’Malley will become the number one contender in the bantamweight division and will face the winner of the championship showdown between Aljamain Sterling and TJ Dillashaw.
This was announced in an interview with sportswriter Robbie Fox by UFC President Dana White.
“Absolutely,” said the head of the strongest league in the world. “Peter Yan is number one in the world. O’Malley is 27 years old and has a 15-1 record – he is experienced enough for this fight, he has an advantage in arm length and height, and he has knockout power. He has all the tools to win this fight, but I don’t want to say that it will be an easy task for him. Petr Yan is an absolutely ferocious savage. Sean said he wants to be the next McGregor and this fight is for him like fighting Jose Aldo is for Conor.”
Recall that both fights will be part of the UFC 280 tournament, which will be held on October 22 in Abu Dhabi.
