A welterweight challenger bout between Khamzat Chimaev and Colby Covington is in development and will have a five-round format.
Informed sources close to the situation say that the fight will be part of the UFC 285 tournament, which will take place on March 4. At the moment, the venue of the event is Las Vegas, while the numbered tournament in London, which should head the final match of the trilogy between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman, has not yet been dated. Earlier, UFC President Dana White said both fights could take place on the same show.
There is no information yet about whether the fight between Chimaev and Covington will become the main event of the UFC 285 tournament.
34-year-old Colby Covington returned his career to a successful track in March of this year after another defeat from Kamaru Usman, defeating Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision, and 28-year-old Khamzat Chimaev goes undefeated and extended his winning streak in the UFC to six fights in September, already in the first round, finishing by choke Kevin Holland.
Currently, Colby Covington and Khamzat Chimaev occupy the second and third lines in the UFC welterweight rankings, respectively.
