Kamil Hajiyev said the UFC’s popularity is declining

Despite annual statements by UFC owners about the growth of the brand and increasing its value, the popularity of the world’s strongest league at the moment is significantly inferior to its popularity five years ago, said Kamil Gadzhiev, president of AMC Fight Nights.

“How does the UFC of today differ from the UFC of five years ago? Nothing,” said Gadzhiev in an interview “The Herald of MMA”. “It’s even gotten worse. I feel like when McGregor was dusting himself off, and there was this history he had with Khabib, it was all much more interesting to the general public. And now the UFC is just very big, very recognizable, but not as directly popular.”

A few days earlier the intention to deprive the UFC of the status of the sole leader of the mixed martial arts industry was announced by the leadership of the PFL league, which has officially acquired Bellator MMA and plans to fight the largest mma promotion.

Specifically, the PFL and Bellator, which will operate as separate brands, will hold a joint event in 2024 that will feature superfights between the organizations’ champions in all weight classes.

As a reminder, the 2023 PFL champions will be determined this weekend at the final tournament of the season in Washington, DC.
