Charles Oliveira made a statement after losing to Islam Makhachev

Former UFC lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira, summed up the fight with Islam Makhachev, in the confrontation with which he could not regain the vacant title, having suffered an early defeat.

“Islam did what it was supposed to do, but I didn’t do my job,” the Brazilian said at a press conference after the UFC 280 tournament. “We are fighters, and this happens – Makhachev was better today. There are days when you are better than your opponent, and there are days when your opponent is better than you. Nothing can be done here, but we will definitely meet him again.”

“I’m still the number one contender in the division. We’ll get home, I’ll talk to my family, I’ll talk to the team, I’ll talk to the UFC, and we’ll decide what our next step will be. No one has hit me harder than life. I fell, I got up, and I’m going to get my belt back. A wounded lion is the most dangerous animal!”

Recall that the lightweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira, who led the numbered event in Abu Dhabi, ended in the second round with the victory of the Russian by arm triangle choke.
