Benil Dariush assesses Alex Volkanovski's lightweight chances

UFC lightweight number four Benil Dariush doesn’t think Alexander Volkanovski’s foray into his weight class will end well for the Australian featherweight.

“I don’t want to discredit him, but perhaps Alex is too small for lightweight,” Dariusz told Submission Radio. “I’m sure people told him he was small even for a featherweight division. I think at lightweight we will have a big size advantage over him.”

“Besides, at featherweight, nobody really tried to fight him. I didn’t see anyone trying to translate it. At lightweight, he will have to fight a lot of grapplers – whoever you take in our division, he knows how and loves to fight. Everything is different here, and I think this will also become a big problem for him. ”

According to the UFC plan, Alex Volkanovski will become the next opponent of Islam Makhachev, who at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi defeated Charles Oliveira ahead of schedule and won the vacant UFC lightweight championship belt. Presumably, the superfight of champions on February 11 will headline the UFC 284 tournament in Perth, Australia.
