The current UFC bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling, is on the side of those who believe that Petr Yan was sued in a duel against Sean O’Malley, which took place at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi and ended with the defeat of the Russian by a split decision.
“I felt sorry for Peter Yan,” the American said in the next edition of the MMA Hour program. “I think he was robbed. O’Malley was a little shocked and puzzled by the referee’s decision, it took him by surprise, and now he knows what it was like for me when I was in this position.
“The difference is that I knew that I won the fight, and he was declared the winner, but he himself did not understand whether he won the fight or not until he reviewed it. I had no doubts about my victory.”
Recall that Aljamain Sterling, as part of a numbered event, successfully defended the championship belt, finishing with a TKO in the second round of T.J. Dillashaw. Prior to this, Sterling fought two title fights with Yang, winning the first by disqualification and the second by a split decision.
