The finals are set for tomorrow’s Grand Finale of the 2014 World Championship. The first day in Minsk, Belarus is over. All preliminary bouts are part of the history now and the finalists for Saturday were identified. Russian National Team being a perennial favorite made it to the finals in 5 out of 6 weight categories recognized by WMMAA. The most prestigious heavyweight is the one Russia couldn’t make it to the finals as the last year’s World HW Champion Znaur Khetagurov lost to Kazakhstan’s Mokhmad Sulimanov in the semifinals by brutal knockout and was immediately taken to the hospital right after the fight.
One more favorite country in Kazakhstan has a solid contingent of 5 athetes who so far left no chance to other competitors en route to the next stage. The team includes Shavkat Rakhmonov, the last year’s welterweight champion and Dauren Ermekov, current Asian MMA champion.
